Extending Light Through the Skylight

site-and-sun-copy.jpg

This diagram shows plan of the roof-scape on site in relation to angles of the sun. These angles inform not only the positioning of the overall unit and the skylight unit, but start to appear on the interior finishes of the roof itself. The following images and drawings show how the rays of light extend through the skylight.post-interior-copy.jpg

The above section is taken through some of the south facing units, showing how the frame of the skylight is extended into the space. This frame starts to deteriorate into wooden slats at the bottom edges to allow more sun penetration in the winter. These slats continue down the walls of the units extending the path of light into the interior.

This image shows that in places where the light hits, the slats are a light color wood which is ‘deteriorated’ from the darker paneling on the rest of the units. This deterioration is shown in the below drawing where those sunlight extensions occur as set deeper into the wall than the darker paneling.
