Light Studies and Air Movement

sun-post.jpg

For an extension of the roof-scape into the program of a house, we started looking at sun conditions within that space. These started to dictate the programmatic needs of the space.  In order to allow the building to breathe, we began punching through the roof to create inner courtyards that will allow for the movement of air through the spaces.posts-section-one.jpg

These courtyards separate public and private zones of the house, which are also  delineated by type of light that enters the space.

The interior wall grow either down off the roof or up from the ground, shown through a material difference of wood and concrete. These walls then start to peel apart in highly active areas according to needs of light and air movement.
