Woven Infrastructure
Giving the Kindergarten it’s site context and scale continues the progression towards a fully functioning design. Further development of the interaction of the surrounding environment, landscape, and lighting behavior produces set areas within this mat-like typology that react to programmatic needs.
Concrete location of specific program areas are to follow, governing certain adjustments to typological infrastructure to satisfy second level options, as well as a more ambitious script-related skin system.
As a detailing tool, Rhino Scripting was originally used to insert these apertures, that reside at the meeting of four diamonds surfaces that make up the folding patterns of the strip template, into the 3D computer model. Utlizing a 3-4 control-point based surfacing system, skin needs to respond to the 8 point polygons (that make up the 3D model’s form) in a controlled, design based logic. Design considerations are global location and programmatic necessity, relation to the site and sunlight, and structural versus secondary roles.
