Biblioteque National, Paris- Henri Labrouste, 1860-68

Labrouste’s original concept for the library created a separation of storage place and the reader. He did this by creating a vast oblong reading room with book stacks behind the readers. These two affiliations are separated by a semicircular recess from where the staff is a able to supervise and manage the reading room and book stacks. This plan is continued for 5 floors up.
