Treating each individual square as a potential receptor of light, the massing model of Exeter was subjected to both summer and winter sun patterns. Looking at the angle and asimuth of the sun, the mass was broken down into varying zones of intensity codified by a monochromatic scale of grey tones. (The darker the zone the higher the exposure to light at that time of day/year)
