Advertising; the ability to direct one’s attention
Advertising gives visual cue to a passer-by, making them a consumer of visual information. What if we had the ability to create the same affect but in a more educational, informative way physically? By funneling people into the public domain of a building you are not forcing them to enter. You are simply suggesting it by ingulfing them with a system that interjects itself into the public realm of the sidewalk. I propose my library to engulf the sidewalk, providing shelter and easy access to its facilities from someone walking down Lafayette.

The shortest distance to any given point is a straight line. The average city dweller will most definatly take advantage of a faster route when given to them. By freeing up the southern corner of the site it allows for a streamline circulatory flow subsequently directed toward entering the library. One can also feel free to continue to walk all the way through the overhang if desired.

Here the individual panels allow for ’slip’ passages from the street and sidewalk. The purpose being to filter people through the skin and giving them the oppurtunity to enter, or to maintain their journey on the sidewalk.
