Structural Systems Model
A 2D template, created using the performative logic defined by the Geometric Principle Analysis of Sycon Ciliatum, was used to develop a folded module. This module was aggregated in a number of ways that were suggested by the unused lines embedded within the template.
The enclosure in which the membrane creates can be controlled by the tapered ends of each module. By closing the ends, its lateral span is shortened while the depth of the enclosed space is increased.
Leaving the ends open allows the membrane to span a greater lateral distance while losing depth. These inherent properties can be used to direct rainwater flow to designated areas.
They can also be used as a means to control daylighting.
