Performing Arts Library
A performing arts library requires different sources of knowledge, such as, books, media, computers, and live visual performances. The objective of this project is to house the vast variety of these resources in one building while allowing each section to flourish without disrupting one another.
The skin uses hexagons as the core unit. The triangles inside the hexagons are used to control the light and also function as structural elements in the system. This skin system, has an effect that allows it to be smooth. This effect could also be interpreted by openings in the skin that allow light and ventilation to enter the interior of the building according to the necessary space. Areas of high-activity recieve more light, while areas of less activity such as collection areas, receive less light in order to preserve the books, and create a more intimate environment.
There are five different kinds of units that allow more, or less light according to the activity level in the given area. Each of these units are located on the the skin according to the program. The effect the skin emits to pedestrians, is interupted by changes in the apertures of the skin, in order to highlight performance spaces.
