The project began with a serious of study on space packing material and biological skins. The result is layers of unique spaces that cooperate with and influenced by the skin. This library serves color, and provide its visitors with three choice of experience their choice.

The multilayer structures of a butterfly scale have evolved to take advantage of the optical interference with sunlight. The scales have their unique thickness, material and curvature. Thus when parallel lights hit the surface, the outgoing rays are no longer parallel. This phenomenon is observed as different colors for different angles of view.

The form of the building acts as a single scale. The cut-out faces south, thus obtains maximum ability and possibility to play with light. It provides unique spacial experience within the library and furthermore, delates sunlight by allowing it to bounce on the oblique facades.

Up on the sixth floor, private rooms are available for artists and color-maniacs to paint, draw, basically, create anything that’s associate with color.

Fourth floor is a public cafe surrounded by stained glass. Here, one can enjoy color and observe light while sipping coffee. At the other end of the room, you can survey the giant staircase leading to the fifth floor.

Lights are blocked off by the skin until shoulder level for optimum color observation. The stairs and platforms allow people to observe color while in motion. It encourages people to interact with the skin. Furthermore, it is where you get to pick your own color/colors, observe them and find what you are looking for in this library.
