hardcore:Festo Bionic Learning Network
From the air jelly and the water jelly to the airic’s arm and the molecubes, festo has led the way in innovative products for automated production as well as fostered a culture of exploration in the Bionic Learning Network. We will be featuring a series of projects in the weeks to come but for now we have compiled a brief introduction to some of their current endeavours.
In the Festo biomechatronics, they are testing new approaches for the control and regulation of bionic autonomous systems, to smart systems integration and the use of modern communication technologies.
In the future, for the automation of production autonomous, flexible, adaptive and self-regulating processes is of increasing importance given. This is also the development of sensor and control technology on the way to a decentralized and autonomous self and self-systems on the inspiration from nature pushed.

Evolution Graphics: Collective Behavior
Autonomous, the autonomous and self-organizing systems are the answer to the future, the permanent change in underlying production scenarios. Inspired from nature Festo developed the sensor technology and control technology continues – to biomechatronics. The route goes from the simple control via sensors and complex schemes to future collective behavior of all elements of the process chain.
Evolution Graphics: BionicTripod
Maximum flexibility, low moving mass and energy are the key parameters of efficient handling systems. The evolution of space goes beyond the classical portal Tripod to BionicTripod developed taking into account the bionic Fin Ray ® principle.
Evolution Chart: FinGripper
An ideal hook retains a variety of different size and contour reliably handle. By servopneumatischen HGPPI is already a flexible, classic rapier available. With the bionic FinGripper Festo opens another dimension of the adaptive grasping. With “fingertip feeling” without prejudice to the FinGripper also fragile and irregularly shaped items.

Bionic efficient solutions for the automation of the future
Maximum performance with minimum energy consumption: the nature shows the way for energy efficient movements in the production of tomorrow and gives impulses for new amazing applications in practice.
In the automation, flexibility, lightness in relation to the moving mass and energy are becoming increasingly important. The nature shows in the most diverse examples of how to use a minimal amount of energy a maximum of performance can be achieved.
The Festo Bionic Learning Network – an alliance of Festo with renowned universities, institutes and development companies – has in recent years become an integral part of the innovation process from Festo established.
From bionic design approaches were used for the handling of new industrial technologies for grabs flexible adaptive grasping developed.
