SOFTlab’s latest installation, CHROMAesthesiae, arrives at Devotion just in time for spring. CHROMAesthesiae is a flourishing landscape of color, blooming across the ceiling in high contrast-gradated clusters. This installation is an investigation on the spatial and chromatic perception of space. SOFTlab uses modularity as a core modality in order to generate complexity from repetitive form, allowing for rapid expansion or contraction of every piece created. With the motto, “everything changes,” the ability to adapt and grow conceptually underpins their entire body of work. This customizable installation is made of discrete, laser cut paper structures held together with binder clips: everyday objects are repurposed and precisely recombined. Forms evolve and shift color throughout the exhibition. More info after the break.
Our friends at Living is doing some great work…check it> Living Light is a permanent outdoor pavilion in the heart of Seoul with a dynamic skin that glows and blinks in response to both data about air quality and public interest in the environment. Citizens can enter the pavilion or view it from nearby streets and buildings, and they can text message the building and it will text them back.

Critic: Scott Marble & Assistant Critic: Ben Krone
We had the opportunity to attend Scott Marble’s review a few months ago and got a closer look at the array of digital design techniques being developed in his graduate design studio. We are featuring Katie Shima and Hyoung-Gul Kook projects from the studio. Please take the time to browse through.
The trailer for TRON Legacy, that is directed by Joseph Kosinski has just been released. He is a fellow GSAP alumni that has made the leap into feature films. With Tron Legacy and Logan’s Run being released in 2010′+2011′, I am sure this will help in solidifying his position w/ a new generation of science fiction. Be sure to take a look at some of his other commercial work that ranges in clients such as nike, Microsoft and Lincoln that is located on his site.
We are pleased to announce the launch of the Apo Mechanes studio and workshop to be held in Athens this summer.
Apo Mechanes is an intensive 2.5 week computational design studio dedicated to furthering the techniques and concepts of computation as means for the production of spatial environments. Apo Mechanes will investigate the modes of algorithmic processes in architectural design and fabrication. Apo Mechanes is derived from “από μηχανής”, literally “from the machine”, and refers to the machinic nature of the studio in both an abstract/diagrammatic and a literal fabrication sense. It will run from the 27th of July till the 11th of August.
core.form-ula is the academic wing of form-ula. Our goal is to provide a platform, be it physical or virtual where architects, artists, designers, engineers, scientists, and writers can come together in collaborative space.
