SCRIPT (2)
(314 views)The script is in final working order, the module has been configured in its entirety (for the moment) and the process of arraying and thickening has now been performed without a snag. Ideally, there will be a component in the module that changes over the course of the array via a variable within the script and pressure within the building or site. This should be fleshed out this week. The program study will determine the form of the building and resultant facade by Monday (4/7/08). The rough render below illustrates the modular field in its current state. Apologies for the rough quality, it is the result of a technical battle that has been waged since the scripting started.

SCRIPT.
(466 views)(innitial module_”showzbuffer” view used to illustrate its dimensions)
The script is in a primitive form, but it successfully creates a structural network using my modular system. The next steps will involve the addition of curves and corresponding lofts to add flesh to this skeletal product.
By adjusting the point locations and created curves of the initial module, the script can be tailored to each project within the studio. The control factors are pretty straightforward. Simply deciding what additions or augmentations to make to the “seed”module in the form of point data and curve/loft creation will allow for the project to evolve at a new rate of speed.

SKIN.
(238 views)Ive tried getting the structural system mapped onto the surfaces of the building, but an array of a 2D object is the only thing working as of now. I need to figure out how to array a 3D module in order to accurately render my system. The render below is of the scripted 2D object, a sort of veneering compared to its full form. read more

Collection/form/program (library)
(199 views)Informatics Library | Program
(218 views)In an age where libraries have been pushed to the side there is a calling for a revamping of what a library is as an institution. No longer is the library filled with dusty stacks lining the walls, serving as only a place for study with the restrictive librarian shushing rowdy library goers.

SITE.
(193 views)The site analysis revealed inefficiencies and opportunities within the current parking and traffic structure of the area in immediate proximity of our building. My proposal uses my site data as support for the removal of a section of Lafayette Ave. to allow for a communal green space. Recent personal events have left me with a great interest in communal hubs and places of social exchange. The new open area has the potential for large-scale public events staging, recreation, and community interaction, all a result of the library project.
More on the innards and workings of the building later. The large scale concepts are being ironed out first in order to decrease the scope of concern for the project as a whole.

adverting to a library in the bowery.
(251 views)Advertising is a tool used for a very specific purpose. The eye is an amazing receptor of information. Whether the information recieved is stored in the frontal lobe or forgotten minutes later, the information inputted has an effect. What if the visual cues recieved by the mind were not dominatly visual, but physical?

Advertising; the ability to direct one’s attention
(222 views)Advertising gives visual cue to a passer-by, making them a consumer of visual information. What if we had the ability to create the same affect but in a more educational, informative way physically? By funneling people into the public domain of a building you are not forcing them to enter. You are simply suggesting it by ingulfing them with a system that interjects itself into the public realm of the sidewalk. I propose my library to engulf the sidewalk, providing shelter and easy access to its facilities from someone walking down Lafayette.
