This is a quick/dirty structure analysis of a tubular space frame. This should be seen as a proof of concept and will be developed to a further extent over the rest of the semester. I apologize for the quality of the video but it is beginning to reveal through its displacement, members that performing and others that are failing. Dimensions are approx (100′h x 200′d x 5′w) the material is a 6″ dia tube aluminum w/ a .25″ wall thickness. More to come over the weekend. read more

Sycon Ciliatum, a syconoid species of Calcareous sponges, were analyzed for its geometric principles. 3 behavioral logics were derived from the analysis; inversion of membrane, rotational folding, and axial expansion. A 3D diagram was generated, consisting of surface and curve information formed through the application of the behavioral logic.

“Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic.” Arthur C. Clarke, “Profiles of The Future”, 1961 (Clarke’s third law)
More magic toys at GDC that I would cheerfully have sold my best friend to posses when I was a child if I had had a best friend. Who knew that the future held these things? First, there’s Crayon Physics Deluxe which is literally a MAGIC BOOK - I have no other way to say this. You draw on a page, and your objects take on weight and crayon-y substance (see picture) - you’re literally drawing into a little 2D crayon world. read more

Through analysis of the Lopha Cristagalli shell, three characteristics were extracted that considered self-intersection, skin/shell relationships, and skeletal vs. skin hybrid relationships. Looking at the shell through both a temporal and a physical scope, these three concepts carry through to initiate the conceptual beginnings of the aquatic center. read more

The Ctenoid scale is found on many “bony” fish. These include the bass and the angel fish. This type of scale is distinct in that the ends of the scales grow with a toothed outer edge with patterns like tree rings based off years and climates during the year. As you can see the main body of the scale have a pattern as well as growths at the end. Under closer magnification you can see the patterns the spiny cells take and the influence they have on the other cells
