There is nothing more exciting than to see a set of polished tools astronauts use in there pursuit to exploring the universe. The aesthetics of space technology have their own construct that may not be taught in design schools, but I am sure it has influenced more professions than we can count. I came across a recent set if photos taken by Michael Soluri, who is a New York City based photographer that had a rare opportunity to photograph a set of tools. The photographs were taken in a clean room, upon which his equipment had to be disassembled and chemically bathed before hand and had to wear a nylon-suit, with boots and latex gloves -as not to contaminate the tools. The Pratt Institute Libraries are pleased to announce the launch of our Flickr digital image collections, comprised of over 1,600 images from our Archives and Special Collections. Digitized in 2005 and 2006 through the assistance of grants from the Metropolitan New York Library Council, these images have been added to Flickr for increased visibility and research access, and have already garnered over 25,000 views during the collection-building phase in March and April 2009. read more

Here is a quick update on the new Porsche museum by the Viennese architect-designed Delugan Meissl that will be opening January 31 of 2009.
Porsche has culminated a 100 million euro ground-up renovation on its museum in Stuttgart, which will be officially dedicated later this week. The museum spans over 1,000 square meters of floor space, wrapped in stunning architecture and housing a collection of over 80 significant Porsches from the marque’s history, from the first 356 to the latest Panamera. read more
