Roof Structure Integration into Site

Longitudinal section describing schematic McCarren Park Aquatic Center.

The structural components of the long span act as roof and as ground. Fanning patterns of the roof components rotate radially from control points in plan, and dip/valley in section to form a subtle landscape. They also acknowledge with a certain level of sensitivity the existing buildings on site and preliminarily programmed routes of public circulation across the site.

Final Rhino model form has been rationalized into a more constructable system of parts. Varying thickness has been added to begin to negotiate structural roles within the system of the model. Forms have also been structured into ribbing geometries, to serve as the spine for a future skin system. read more

Update of the developments of an interior wall system that tunes to movement of air and captures light of the sun. This allows the house to breathe, letting the outside environment invade the home. read more


Light Studies and Air Movement

For an extension of the roof-scape into the program of a house, we started looking at sun conditions within that space. These started to dictate the programmatic needs of the space.  In order to allow the building to breathe, we began punching through the roof to create inner courtyards that will allow for the movement of air through the spaces. read more
