Pulse by Berlin-based artist Markus Kison

 Pulse

Pulse is a live visualization project by Berlin-based artist Markus Kison. It’s based around a shapeshifting, heart-like object that reacts to the emotions expressed by the authors of private weblogs on blogger.com. A program aggregates words in blogs’ text and scans for synonyms that correlate with the emotional concepts in Robert Plutchik’s three-dimensional circumplex model describing the psychoevolutionary theory of emotion. The more one a the emotions is represented, the more corresponding portion of the organism is mechanically activated. Blurring the lines between art and technology, Pulse uses data to create the very organic visualization. read more

cnc robot

It’s a modified DIY hexapod robot with a motorized Dremel-tool nose, and Matt’s written some code that lets the robot move the cutting tool with precision, so it acts like a little precision CNC mill. And it’s amazing: wait til you see the video of it in action, carving out a model. But is this project a scary step towards self-replicating ‘bots? via gizmodo read more

The FLARE system

FLARE is a modular system to create a dynamic hull for facades or any building or wall surface. Acting like a living skin, it allows a building to express, communicate and interact with its environment.

Not sure if the image and movie are renderings or the real thing. Either way the site opens up the process and technical underpinnings that are valuable in an of themselves. If they ever  get this built I  am sure it will be mesmerizing.

RMP by Segway

Lets face it walking sucks! Most people don’t even know how to do it properly. Shufflers, bouncers, excessive arm swingers, non arm swingers and my favorite, the ones that don’t know what side of the sidewalk to walk on. I don’t even know why we bother. Why can’t we have a magical device w/ millions of tiny feet that moves us around? BAM! Segway’s new RMP is here. 48 nubs is nowhere near a million but it is a good start. read more
